Two minutes with a tape measure saves a return.
Bed covers are built to a specific bed length, and the badge on your tailgate will not tell you which one you have. Here is how to know for sure.
How to measure
- Park on level ground and open the tailgate.
- Hook your tape measure at the inside of the bulkhead (the wall behind the cab).
- Measure along the bed floor to the inside edge of the closed tailgate position. Measure the floor, not over the bed rails.
- Write down the number in inches.
Match your number to a named bed size
Truck beds are named in feet and inches, but the actual measurement is usually a little different. Match your tape measurement to the closest named size below. All figures are approximate.
- Ford F-150: 5'7" bed is about 67", 6'5" bed is about 78", 8' bed is about 97"
- Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra 1500: 5'8" bed is about 70", 6'6" bed is about 79", 8' bed is about 98"
- Ram 1500: 5'7" bed is about 67", 6'4" bed is about 76"
- Toyota Tacoma: 5' bed is about 60", 6' bed is about 74"
- Toyota Tundra: 5.5' bed is about 66", 6.5' bed is about 78", 8' bed is about 97"
Three mistakes to avoid
- Do not trust the trim badge or the dealer window sticker from memory. Measure.
- Do not measure with the tailgate down and include the tailgate. The cover stops at the closed tailgate.
- Do not measure over the rails. Rail-top measurements run long and will point you at the wrong cover.
Once you have your number, every product on this site lists its bed length right in the title. Match them up and you are covered by our Fitment Guarantee.
